Civil Process and Weapon Permits

 

The Civil Department processes papers from the Clerk of Court, private attorneys, citizens and businesses that deal with civil judgments or actions.  These type of documents need to be served upon a person(s) by an officer. They include but are not limited to original notices and petitions, wage garnishment, sheriff sales, protective and restraining orders, involuntary commitment of persons with mental illness and / or substance abuse and other legal processes issued by lawful authority.  Please contact the Sheriff’s office prior to faxing or emailing documents for service. Select either Application Annual Permit to Acquire Pistol/Revolvers or Application for Permit to Carry Weapons

 

Effective July 1, 2017, a new permit to carry requires a fee of $50 and a valid driver's license or non-operator I.D. that contains your photograph and current address issued by the Iowa Department of Transportation.  It also requires a training class taken within the previous 24 months or a DD214 with honorable discharge. The permits are valid for five years from the date of issue.   Renewing your current permit to carry requires a fee of $25, a valid driver's license or non-operator I.D. that contains your photograph and current address issued by the Iowa Department of Transportation. The permits are valid for five years from date of issue. 

 

Effective July 1, 2017, a permit to acquire weapons requires a fee of $25.00 and a valid driver's license or non-operator I.D. that contains your photograph and current address issued by the Iowa Department of Transportation. A permit to acquire is valid for 5 years from the date of issue.

 

As the courthouse is closed to the public, to obtain a weapon permit complete the on-line application, make a copy of your driver's license (preferably color) and a copy of the certificate of completion of the permit to carry course, include a check for payment and mail or place in the drop box at the Pocahontas County Courthouse.  A copy of a current utility bill or insurance statement showing the same address would be appreciated.  NOTE:  your driver's license and application must have the same address.
